What is Owlf?

Owlf is my formula for coping with the struggles of living with Crohn’s disease day in and day out. You will see it infused everywhere throughout this blog. Owlf has four components, one for each letter that represents something I have found absolutely necessary to making it through this journey. 

Ongoing Support— IBD is an invisible disease leaving patients feeling alone & misunderstood. This is why it’s important to find support among fellow IBD patients. Surround yourself with loving, supportive people that get it! By sharing my journey through this blog, I hope to bring support to fellow women IBD patients.

Win Everyday— Focusing on the positive things in your life can help you adjust your mindset. If you stop to count your blessings and see something good in each and every single day, you will form a habit of positive thinking. You will feel more grateful for what you have, instead of focusing on the negatives. This disease can force us to go through some all time low’s emotionally. That’s why it’s important no matter how small the ‘win’, we need to find at least one each day.

Laugh Often— It’s that simple. Laughter truly is good for the soul. Laughing is basically a physical symptom of enjoyment. Our enjoyment colors our perception on our quality-of-life. You may have heard of the saying “laugh so you don’t cry”. I feel that applies to life with a chronic illness. Find a way to laugh at the ridiculous situations so you don’t become overwhelmed.

Fearless Mindset— Remember that fearlessness will help us endure. To say that IBD demands a lot from us would be an understatement. The reality of an incurable disease is very sobering. We are often forced to face our fears whether we like it or not. But we can choose to approach each situation as a warrior. One battle at a time. This too shall pass!
